Hammersmith Cycle Hub, London
Project Details
The project, led by the Hammersmith and Fulham Council is the first cycle hub in the area and is aimed to encourage cleaner and more sustainable travel to improve the environment, air quality and people’s health.
The new hub is built to provide over 80 cycle parking spaces as well as additional bays for larger cargo bikes. In order to guarantee the highest level of security, the Diamond Sold Secure accredited Streetpods have been installed which offer the highest level of security and are the most secure bike rack in the UK.
In addition the hub has its own CCTV that is linked to the council’s extensive CCTV network which means the hub is monitored in real time, at all times, to prevent any issues with misuse or thieves and give users full confidence.
The hub can be accessed using an app which will be free for the first year to encourage as many users as possible.
Further additions of a Bike repair station and a cycle lock rack have been included to allow cyclists to make minor repairs to there bikes and pump their tyres as well as storing bulky bike locks.
The cycle hub sits on a once unused space beneath the Hammersmith Flyover next to Hammersmith Broadway tube station and has brought new cyclists to the area from south of the river who are now cycling to Hammersmith for their onwards journey to the get the tube or bus.
Cycle hubs are an integral part of encouraging cycling in urban areas, the additional level of security and shelter play a large part in the decision to venture out on our bikes and gives cyclists confidence that their bikes are much safer than on a standard outdoor cycle stand.
