BSFG Launches Paleto: A New Modular Approach to Cycle Parking, Mobility and Secure Outdoor Storage
BSFG has launched the Paleto Shelter System in the UK, introducing a highly flexible and modular solution for cycle parking, mobility storage and a wide range of covered outdoor applications.
Developed by leading European manufacturer VelopA, Paleto has been designed around a simple principle: outdoor infrastructure should be able to adapt to the needs of the site, its users and changing demand.
Rather than being a fixed shelter design, Paleto is a modular system that can be configured in different heights, lengths and widths, with a choice of enclosure, access and sustainability options. This makes it suitable for everything from compact cycle parking installations through to larger-scale, high-capacity mobility hubs and secure storage facilities.
A Flexible System Built Around Your Requirements
At the heart of the Paleto is a robust modular steel structure featuring 80 × 80 mm steel posts. The system can be extended using additional modules, allowing capacity to grow alongside the needs of a development.
Two height options are available, including a 3-metre configuration suitable for two-tier cycle parking, making it possible to increase cycle capacity without simply increasing the footprint of the shelter. This can be particularly valuable on constrained urban sites, campuses, workplaces and transport hubs where available space comes at a premium.
The modular approach also allows different functions to be incorporated into the same structure. Depending on the project, Paleto can provide covered cycle parking, e-bike charging, scooter and motorcycle storage, secure equipment storage or other covered outdoor facilities.
Configured to Suit Your Requirements
Paleto is available in a range of configurations, giving architects, landscape designers, developers and local authorities the flexibility to create a solution that responds to the requirements of each site. Options include different cladding finishes, heights, access arrangements, locking systems and roof treatments, with features such as integrated lighting and sedum roofing also available.
This combination of flexibility and robust modular construction enables Paleto to be configured around the needs of the project, rather than requiring the project to fit a standard shelter design.
From Open Shelter to Secure Storage
One of the key advantages of Paleto is the ability to determine how open or enclosed the structure needs to be.
Duo Wire cladding can provide a more open and visually permeable solution, while timber cladding creates a warmer, more architectural appearance. Fully enclosed configurations can provide a greater level of security, with single, double or sliding door arrangements available depending on the requirements of the site.
This makes Paleto suitable for a broad range of applications, including:
- Cycle parking and cycle hubs
- Two-tier cycle parking
- E-bike parking and charging
- Scooter and motorcycle storage
- Secure cycle storage
- Equipment and container storage
- Bin Storage
- Covered walkways and outdoor shelters
- Workplace and campus facilities
- Transport and mobility hubs
The system can also accommodate different functions within a single installation, helping clients make better use of available space.
Making More of Every Square Metre
With cycling infrastructure increasingly required to accommodate higher volumes of bicycles, e-bikes and other forms of active travel, simply providing additional cycle stands is not always enough.
Paleto provides a way to think about cycle parking as part of a wider mobility infrastructure strategy.
The 3m-high configuration can accommodate two-tier cycle parking, enabling significantly more bicycles to be accommodated within a relatively compact footprint. This can be particularly beneficial for universities, railway stations, workplaces, residential developments and other locations where cycle parking demand is high but land availability is limited.
The modular construction also means that the shelter can be extended as demand increases, helping avoid the need to replace an entire installation when additional capacity is required.
Sustainability and Green Roofing Options
Sustainability is an important consideration within the Paleto system, with a range of options available to help integrate the shelter into its surroundings.
Paleto can be specified with an optional sedum green roof, introducing additional vegetation while creating a more visually integrated and environmentally conscious shelter solution. The raised roof edge is designed to accommodate the green roof build-up.
Integrated lighting is also available, providing practical illumination within the shelter while helping to create a safer and more welcoming environment for users.
The system's rainwater drainage is integrated into the structure, with water able to be routed through the hollow support posts and, where required, connected into below-ground drainage infrastructure.
A European Design, Now Available Through BSFG
The Paleto is the latest addition to BSFG's growing portfolio of international cycle parking and street furniture solutions.
Designed by VelopA, a long-established European manufacturer specialising in cycling infrastructure, shelters and public realm products, Paleto combines a robust structural approach with the flexibility needed for modern developments.
For BSFG, bringing Paleto to the UK market further strengthens its ability to offer clients a choice of cycle parking infrastructure that goes beyond standard shelter designs.
We're particularly excited to introduce Paleto to the UK market because it offers specifiers something that is increasingly important in cycle parking and mobility infrastructure: flexibility," says Marco Arreghini, Head of Marketing and Product, BSFG.
"Rather than asking a project to fit around a standard shelter, Paleto allows the shelter to be configured around the project. Whether that's a compact cycle store, a high-capacity two-tier facility, a secure mobility hub or a more visually integrated solution with timber cladding, lighting and a sedum roof, the system can evolve around the requirements of the site."
A Future-Proof Approach to Cycle Parking
As active travel infrastructure continues to develop, the requirements placed on cycle parking are becoming increasingly diverse.
Today's facility may need to accommodate conventional bicycles, while tomorrow's users could bring e-bikes, cargo bikes, scooters or other forms of personal mobility. At the same time, developments are placing greater emphasis on security, sustainability, accessibility, aesthetics and making efficient use of valuable space.
Paleto has been developed with this changing landscape in mind.
Its modular construction, configurable enclosure and range of optional features allow projects to create a solution that meets their requirements today, while retaining the potential to adapt and expand in the future.
Paleto is now available from BSFG for UK projects.
