How can street furniture save lives?

JCDecaux has developed a new digital phone kiosk that could literally save lives. Usually an advertising company they have set about designing innovative street furniture that combines the latest in digital advertising technology with a range of free public services, including an automated defibrillator that can be used by the public.

“We know that early defibrillation can triple a victim’s chance of survival, so we are delighted to work with JCDecaux UK to bring defibrillators to city centres across the UK. Cardiac arrest can happen to anyone at any time and after calling 999 and doing CPR, using a defibrillator offers the best chance to save a life. These defibrillators are straightforward to use, with clear voice instruction prompts that guide the user through the process – so no special training is needed. We would urge everyone to be prepared, be ready and save a life.” - Martin Fagan, National Secretary, The Community Heartbeat Trust charity

The intention is for both the public and advertisers to benefit from these high tech phone booths. Each kiosk will feature a digital 6 sheet advertising display with local and relevant brand messaging. Along with the defibrillator the kiosks will also include an accessible payphone offering free calls to landlines, WiFi and USB charging points and an interactive screen for wayfinding for visitors to the area.
