Circus Forma
Circus Forma
Circus Forma is the most expressive and architecturally impactful configuration within the acclaimed Circus collection. Designed by Danish designer Thor Høy, Forma elevates the concept of urban seating beyond traditional expectations, creating a multifunctional outdoor destination where people naturally gather, connect and spend more time outdoors. Through its unique arrangement of five interconnected circular modules, Circus Forma introduces height variation, visual rhythm and social engagement into the public realm, creating memorable spaces that combine seating, landscape and community interaction.
Inspired by the social energy of a circus arena, Circus Forma creates a dynamic environment that encourages movement, participation and spontaneous encounters. The varying levels rise progressively from lower seating surfaces to elevated platforms, allowing users to choose how they engage with the furniture and with those around them. The result is a flexible outdoor seating solution that supports everything from informal gatherings and outdoor learning to relaxation, observation and community events.
Unlike conventional benches that simply provide somewhere to sit, Circus Forma creates an outdoor destination. Its amphitheatre-like arrangement naturally encourages communication and interaction while establishing a strong visual focal point within parks, public squares, mixed-use developments, educational campuses, healthcare facilities and urban regeneration schemes. The sculptural design helps activate outdoor environments by creating places where people want to stay, meet and experience the public realm.
At the heart of the configuration is an integrated planting opportunity that introduces nature directly into the furniture. The central planter can accommodate ornamental planting, shrubs or even small trees, creating a green focal point that provides atmosphere, biodiversity benefits and a stronger connection between people and nature. This integration of seating and landscape supports biophilic design principles while contributing to healthier, more attractive and environmentally responsible public spaces.
The seating surfaces are manufactured from premium 10mm compact laminate (HPL) comprising 42 compressed layers. Engineered specifically for demanding public environments, the material offers exceptional durability, excellent mechanical performance, superior UV resistance and long-term weather protection. For projects seeking a more natural aesthetic, FSC-certified mahogany timber seating tops are also available, delivering warmth and character while maintaining the durability required for challenging outdoor applications.
The circular bases are rotationally moulded from high-performance polyethylene (PE), producing seamless components that resist impact, vandalism, weathering and intensive daily use. UV-stabilised and coloured throughout, the polyethylene structure maintains its appearance over time while requiring minimal maintenance. The material is fully recyclable and supports long-term circular economy objectives.
Sustainability is fundamental to the Circus Forma concept. EcoMix polyethylene options incorporate significant recycled material content, including reclaimed resources and post-consumer waste, while the HPL seating surfaces are manufactured from 100% recycled locally sourced paper and are FSC and PEFC certified. With a lifespan of up to 30 years for polyethylene components and up to 50 years for HPL surfaces, Circus Forma delivers outstanding whole-life value alongside exceptional environmental performance.
Available in a carefully curated range of colours and material finishes, Circus Forma enables architects, landscape architects and specifiers to create highly distinctive outdoor environments that promote wellbeing, social engagement and biodiversity. Combining innovative Scandinavian design, integrated greenery, outstanding durability and future-focused sustainability credentials, Circus Forma provides a truly landmark solution for contemporary public realm and landscape architecture projects.
