Circus Duo
Circus Duo
Circus Duo is a contemporary outdoor seating solution that rethinks how people interact within public spaces. As part of the innovative Circus collection designed by Thor Høy, Duo moves away from the traditional linear bench and introduces a softer, more engaging seating experience where two circular seating elements are linked within a single flowing composition. The result is a striking piece of urban furniture that creates opportunities for conversation, pause, community and social interaction.
Inspired by the circular energy of a circus arena, Circus Duo transforms underutilised outdoor spaces into welcoming destinations where people naturally gather. The organic form removes the rigid rules often associated with conventional seating, allowing users to engage with the furniture from multiple directions and in different ways. Whether installed within public squares, parks, educational campuses, healthcare environments, mixed-use developments, transport hubs or commercial landscapes, Circus Duo contributes positively to the user experience while strengthening placemaking objectives.
A defining feature of Circus Duo is the integrated planting element located between the seating modules. This innovative addition introduces greenery directly into the furniture, helping create more attractive and biodiverse public spaces. The combination of planting and seating generates a softer visual character while supporting sustainability goals and enhancing the overall atmosphere of urban environments.
The seating surfaces are manufactured from 10mm compact laminate (HPL) comprising 42 compressed layers. This high-performance material delivers exceptional resistance to UV exposure, weathering, impact and daily wear, making it particularly suitable for demanding public realm applications. Alternative FSC-certified mahogany timber seating options are available for projects seeking a warmer and more natural aesthetic.
The bases are produced from rotationally moulded polyethylene (PE), creating a seamless and highly durable structure engineered for intensive outdoor use. UV resistant and coloured throughout the material thickness, the polyethylene construction offers excellent resistance to weather, vandalism and impact damage. At end of life, the material can be recycled, supporting circular economy principles and responsible specification.
Sustainability is embedded throughout the Circus Duo design. EcoMix polyethylene options contain recycled content, including post-consumer waste materials, while the HPL seating surface is manufactured from 100% recycled locally sourced paper and carries FSC and PEFC certification. With a lifespan of up to 30 years for the polyethylene components and up to 50 years for the HPL seating surface, Circus Duo delivers outstanding whole-life value and long-term environmental performance.
Available in a carefully curated range of contemporary colours and finishes, Circus Duo offers landscape architects, architects and specifiers the flexibility to create memorable outdoor environments that encourage people to stay longer, engage with one another and connect more closely with the surrounding landscape. The result is a durable, low-maintenance and visually distinctive piece of street furniture that combines social value, sustainability and design excellence.
