The SOLID Bench from HITSA—designed by Lars Vejen—offers a fusion of industrial robustness and elegant Danish design for contemporary public spaces. Its circular form draws inspiration from traditional cement well rings, reinterpreted in a modern architectural way to create a striking centrepiece that enhances plazas, courtyards, boulevards and parkland settings. Awarded the Red Dot Design Award in 2009, SOLID remains an exceptional example of minimal‑component urban furniture that delivers both aesthetic presence and functional adaptability.
The construction uses a 10 mm hot‑dip galvanised steel socle, engineered for exceptional durability, corrosion resistance and a clean, sharp edge profile. The socle can also be powder‑coated in any RAL colour while retaining galvanisation beneath, ensuring long‑term performance even if the surface coating is damaged. The seat itself is formed from oil‑treated mahogany, providing visual warmth, tactile comfort and a refined contrast to the steel structure.
To reinforce the idea of integrating nature into the built environment, SOLID can be specified with or without an inner opening. When specified with a central void, the bench forms a circular frame around a tree or planting bed—softening the hardscape and creating an organic focal point that encourages people to gather. Whether used as a standalone sculptural element or as part of a wider landscape scheme, SOLID elevates the character of urban spaces through a blend of material honesty and enduring craftsmanship.
