Project Details

BSFG worked closely with the project stakeholders to transform the exterior entrance space, delivering a suite of coordinated street furniture designed to enhance functionality, aesthetics, and sustainability.

Key elements included:

• Pergolas & Canopies: Two cantilever steel pergolas providing shelter and defining the entrance space.
• Podium Planters & Seating: Three bespoke aluminium podium planter benches featuring laser-cut lettering with welcoming messages in multiple languages to foster inclusivity.
• Durable Seating Solutions: Two Ellis concrete benches with a light acid finish, offering robust and long-lasting seating.
• Biodiverse Landscaping: Fourteen Belgravia aluminium planters to support lush greenery, contributing to water management and climate cooling as well as improving air quality and enhance wildlife habitats.
• Signage: A bespoke totem sign in line with the planter designs, featuring laser-cut aluminium posts.

Sustainability & Urban Impact

The project aligns with Watkin Jones' vision of creating sustainable, high-quality student accommodation. The biodiverse landscaping enhances ecological benefits, while the durable materials ensure longevity. The scheme contributes to Nottingham’s urban fabric by improving access to Sneinton Market, supporting local businesses, and reintegrating former council land into public use.

Designed by ECE Westworks, The Waterways features 354 student homes, including 271 cluster beds and 83 studios. Amenities such as social lounges, a gym, and study spaces create an engaging student experience.
