Folly HPC Bench
Folly HPC Bench
The FOLLY Range represents one of Metalco’s most expressive and recognisable pieces of contemporary urban furniture. Designed by renowned architect and industrial designer Ron Arad, FOLLY is crafted entirely from High‑Performance Concrete (HPC)—a material chosen for its ability to achieve thin, flowing structural shapes while delivering exceptional mechanical strength and longevity. Combining sculptural fluidity with engineering precision, the bench is formed as a continuous ribbon that twists and folds to create seating zones and backrest support at varied heights.
The exterior shell is defined by elegant, raised wave textures that trace the curvature of the bench, producing a dynamic interplay of light and shadow. Its interior seating surface may be specified in either smooth formwork finish or polished finish, allowing designers to tailor the tactile and visual expression to the specific environment. The entire bench is a monolithic element, ensuring structural continuity and resistance to cracking, environmental exposure and vandalism—an essential quality for high‑traffic urban spaces, cultural venues, transport hubs and contemporary architectural landscapes.
FOLLY is designed for reliable placement in a wide range of settings. Four concealed adjustable feet support the piece while allowing precise levelling on uneven terrain, maintaining a floating aesthetic free from visible supports. For projects requiring permanent installation, the bench may alternatively be anchored using threaded bars, boosting stability and resistance to misuse. The combination of material integrity, sculptural form and flexible installation makes FOLLY not only a seating solution but also a landmark object capable of transforming a space.
As part of Metalco’s iconic collection, FOLLY embodies Ron Arad’s celebrated design language—experimental, expressive and technologically forward. His global career includes works housed in institutions such as MoMA, the V&A and the Centre Pompidou, and his mastery of material manipulation is evident in the bench’s complex geometry and tactile richness.
FOLLY therefore stands as both an artistic statement and a highly functional urban furnishing element for premium public‑realm projects.
