The Loop Cone Backrest is a distinctive and versatile component of the Loop modular furniture system. When placed at the centre of a Loop Circle, the cone transforms the circular bench into a comfortable, inward‑facing seating arrangement by providing a continuous internal backrest. This configuration encourages longer dwell times and improves overall seating comfort without compromising the openness of the design.
Manufactured from rotation‑moulded polyethylene with a wall thickness of approximately 6 mm, the Loop Cone Backrest is engineered for long‑term outdoor use. The material is UV‑resistant, impact‑resistant and weather‑stable, making it suitable for high‑footfall public environments. A lightly textured surface finish, created through abrasive blasting of the mould, enhances grip and user comfort while reducing slip risk. The unit is moulded in one piece, ensuring structural integrity and visual clarity.
The design allows the cone to serve multiple functions. The open top can be filled with planting, introducing greenery into seating layouts, or it can be covered with a circular top plate to create a usable tabletop surface. Used independently, the Loop Cone Backrest can also function as a standalone planter or sculptural feature, offering flexibility in both functional and aesthetic applications.
Installation options include surface fixing, ground fixing, or internal ballasting using water or sand, allowing the unit to be deployed in both temporary and permanent schemes. Maintenance requirements are minimal: the polyethylene surface withstands most cleaning agents, can be cleaned using pressure washing, and its colour can be refreshed if required. Recycled polyethylene versions are available, supporting circular‑economy and sustainability objectives in public‑realm projects.
