Designed by Danish design studio VE2 in collaboration with HITSA, the Egedal Miljø 1 recycling bin has been developed to set a new standard for waste sorting in public realm environments. As a sister company to BSFG within the CROWD group, HITSA brings together high‑quality manufacturing, thoughtful design and long‑term sustainability principles in this modular recycling system.
Egedal Miljø 1 is constructed from hot‑dip galvanised steel and clad with smooth, mahogany slats that give the unit a warm and approachable appearance. The materials have been selected for their durability and resistance to wind, weather and everyday urban use, ensuring the product performs reliably throughout its service life. Steel components can also be supplied with a powder‑coated finish where required.
The system is fully modular, allowing recycling stations to be configured with 2, 3 or 4 modules in a single row, or 4, 6 or 8 modules in a double‑row arrangement. Each module provides an 80‑litre capacity, and modules can be added or removed as recycling needs change. This adaptability allows Egedal Miljø 1 to respond to evolving user behaviour, local authority requirements and legislative changes over time.
Egedal Miljø 1 has been designed with maintenance teams in mind. Each module features double swing access, with both the hatch and the bag holder opening outward, allowing emptying to be carried out without lifting. The front panel protects the timber cladding around the opening and provides clear space for waste‑sorting pictograms, which can be easily replaced if waste fractions are updated. The system can also be prepared for the integration of fill‑level sensors to support smarter maintenance regimes.
As part of the wider EGEDAL family, Egedal Miljø 1 can be combined with other EGEDAL litter bins to achieve a consistent visual language across public realm schemes. It is particularly well suited to pedestrian zones, parks and civic spaces where flexible, future‑proof recycling infrastructure is required alongside a high standard of design.
