COSI Bench
COSI Bench
COSI is a bench family created by Danish architects Cobe Arkitekter to bring a modern, sculptural identity to the public realm with minimal upkeep and long service life. The design uses corten steel for primary structural surfaces—intentionally rusting to a stable, protective patina after a few months outdoors—paired with mahogany slats that can be left to silver naturally or maintained with oil to retain their warm tone. This palette delivers a maintenance‑free steel envelope, vandal‑resistance and comfortable user contact surfaces that suit parks, waterfronts, campuses, residential landscapes and civic squares.
Within the bench offer, specifiers can choose: • COSI Bench (free‑standing) in 2000 mm or 3000 mm lengths—signature square slats gently rounded at the front edge for comfort, on corten legs; a simple, robust form that reads cleanly in plan and elevation.
• COSI Bench with 2/3 Backrest—adds a backrest across two‑thirds of the length to create mixed seating: supported and open, enabling varied social behaviours and orientations.
• COSI Park Bench (full backrest)—a more traditional backed bench, retaining the COSI geometry and finish for projects favouring continuous back support.
• COSI Wall‑Mounted Bench—concealed fixings create a “floating” visual, ideal along façades, courtyards and tight pedestrian edges.
• COSI Bench for Concrete Base—bench slats and brackets mount onto a precast concrete plinth for integrated, anchored seating lines.
Every COSI bench is engineered for installation flexibility. Items can be simply placed, surface‑bolted, or supplied for in‑ground setting; HITSA’s series datasheet lists model variants and footprints (e.g., COSI BN 20, COSI BN 30, COSI BN 2A 20) to support detailing and setting‑out. The family is made for disassembly, allowing individual slat replacement and end‑of‑life separation for reuse and recycling—supporting circular design and reduced lifecycle costs without compromising structural integrity.
COSI benches are supplied in corten steel as standard. Where a different finish is required—coastal contexts, colour‑coding or specific brand palettes—HITSA offers hot‑dip galvanised or powder‑coated galvanised alternatives, preserving the range’s geometry while adjusting performance and appearance. As part of the BSFG offer in the UK—and manufactured by our sister company HITSA—the COSI bench family brings proven Nordic craft, resilience and a strong, unified aesthetic to landscape and public‑realm schemes.
Bench‑by‑Bench Summaries
COSI Bench (Free‑Standing, 2000 / 3000 mm)
Sculptural seating with square mahogany slats on corten legs. Rounded front edges improve comfort; available in two lengths to scale from intimate spots to major plazas. Placement, bolt‑down or in‑ground options.
COSI Bench with 2/3 Backrest
Partial backrest across two‑thirds of the bench introduces varied seating postures and social behaviours—half lounge, half lean—within a single element. Same materiality and installation flexibility as the free‑standing version.
COSI Park Bench (Full Backrest)
Full‑length back support with the COSI language of square slats (rounded at contact points) and corten structure. Designed for comfort in promenades, paths and parks.
COSI Wall‑Mounted Bench
Four‑slat bench mounted to vertical structures with hidden fixings for a clean “floating” effect—ideal where surface area is constrained or visual lightness is desired.
COSI Bench for Concrete Base
Distinctive square slats and corten brackets fixed to a concrete plinth—robust, integrated seating lines with strong visual presence and anti‑vandal performance.

FAQ
Corten steel (rust‑red, maintenance‑free patina) and FSC®‑certified mahogany slats; alternatives include hot‑dip galvanised or powder‑coated galvanised steel to suit project performance and colour needs.
Free‑standing benches are typically 2000 mm and 3000 mm long; additional variants include 2/3‑back, full park bench, wall‑mounted benches and benches for concrete bases. Model footprints are detailed in the COSI series datasheet.
Benches can be placed, surface‑bolted, or supplied for in‑ground installation, enabling deployment across paved, landscaped or engineered bases.
Corten requires no ongoing treatment after patination; mahogany slats weather to silver unless oiled periodically to maintain a warm tone. Individual slats can be replaced thanks to “made for disassembly” design.
HITSA—BSFG’s sister company—designs and manufactures the COSI range, bringing Nordic engineering and quality assurance to UK projects supplied by BSFG.
