The Challenge: Outdated and Overcrowded Bike Storage
At Jaguar Land Rover, the existing bike storage facilities were outdated and struggling to meet the growing demand of employees cycling to work. The facility only provided 70 bike spaces, each requiring two locks for extra security. This limited capacity became a significant problem, especially given the increasing number of employees choosing bicycles as their primary mode of transport.
The old bike racks were cumbersome, inefficient, and difficult to maintain, which led to frustration among employees and operational challenges for the company. Jaguar Land Rover needed a more efficient and modern solution to accommodate its expanding workforce while maintaining a high level of security and ease of use.
The Solution: BSFG’s Easylift+ Two-Tier Cycle Parking System
BSFG’s expertise in cycle parking solutions came into play. After a site visit and a thorough analysis of the requirements, we developed a tailored plan that would maximize the space available while providing a user-friendly and secure solution.
We proposed the Easylift+ Two-Tier Cycle Parking System, a cutting-edge solution designed to increase storage capacity without taking up more space. This system, combined with double-height Brighton shelters, would not only accommodate 196 bikes, almost triple the previous capacity, but also ensure that the space was optimally utilized and protected from the elements.
Key Features of the Easylift+ System:
Gas-Assisted Lift Mechanism: The unique design allows users to easily lift their bike onto the upper tier with minimal effort. The gas assist does most of the work, making it extremely user-friendly.
Security Loops for Maximum Protection: Each bike can be locked securely with a frame and wheel lock, ensuring maximum safety.
High-Performance Durability: The Easylift+ system is tested to withstand up to 18,000 cycles of loading and unloading, roughly equivalent to 4 uses a day for 12 years, ensuring long-term reliability.
In addition, BSFG powder-coated both the Easylift+ racks and the Brighton shelters in a bespoke color chosen by Jaguar Land Rover, enhancing both aesthetics and security.
Seamless Installation with Minimal Disruption
The new bike parking system needed to be installed quickly to avoid disrupting the factory’s operations. Jaguar Land Rover’s team requested that the installation take place during the company’s annual factory shutdown. BSFG’s installation team worked efficiently to clear the old storage and complete the new setup within the specified week.
Our team coordinated the entire process seamlessly, ensuring that the site was cleared, prepared, and ready for the new system without any delays or disruptions. The new bike storage system was fully operational by the time employees returned after the shutdown.
Enhanced Facilities: A Complete Solution
In addition to the cycle parking system, BSFG also installed a Bike Repair Stand and Public Bike Pump in the enclosure, providing employees with the tools needed for basic bike repairs and maintenance. This added value to the cycle parking area, making it a more convenient and attractive option for employees who bike to work.
Feedback from Jaguar Land Rover was overwhelmingly positive. The client praised our installation team for their professionalism, with one site contact stating:
"Lads are working really well, their conduct, professionalism, and attitude is a credit to you. They managed to install all 9 shelters in one day!"
This successful installation demonstrated the significant impact that an upgraded, well-designed cycle parking facility can have on the overall user experience, providing convenience, security, and efficiency.
Outcome: Increased Bike Parking Capacity and Employee Satisfaction
By upgrading to BSFG's Easylift+ cycle parking system, Jaguar Land Rover significantly increased its bike storage capacity, from 70 to 196 spaces, addressing the growing demand for sustainable transport options. The new system provides a modern, secure, and easy-to-use solution that enhances both the functional and aesthetic value of the site.
The project not only improved the ease of use for employees but also supported Jaguar Land Rover’s sustainability efforts by promoting cycling as a viable commuting option. The upgraded facilities have made it easier for employees to access secure parking, which encourages more employees to cycle to work, benefiting both the company and the environment.
