The BUND Litter Bin is part of Metalco’s urban‑design waste‑management range and has been developed by designer Massimo Tasca, known for integrating refined detailing with robust engineering. BUND is built around a rectangular, thick steel‑sheet frame, delivering the strength required for hard‑wearing public‑realm applications, including parks, promenades, transport nodes and streetscapes. Its structural rigidity ensures long-term resistance to vandalism, environmental exposure and heavy daily usage.
The bin’s rear is closed with a solid steel panel, while the front includes two or three hinged doors depending on the chosen configuration. Each door is fitted with a snap‑lock mechanism, supporting secure but fast access for maintenance teams. The front doors can be specified in smooth steel or natural Ipe wood, allowing designers flexibility to complement either contemporary or naturalised landscape schemes.
For improved functionality, BUND incorporates a rain cover, preventing water entry and enabling cleaner operation in wet climates. Below the cover, waste‑insertion chutes guide rubbish directly into the internal compartments, reducing spillage. Inside the bin are two or three bag‑holder rings, enabling segregated recycling streams within a single compact footprint. This makes BUND an ideal option for councils and public‑realm managers seeking to increase recycling rates while maintaining a cohesive design aesthetic.
BUND’s modularity also supports the creation of bespoke recycling islands where multiple units are used side‑by‑side.
